The Coromandel Goldfield Centre & Stamper Battery is a 112 year old fully operational water powered plant for processing gold from rock, voted number 3 in Lonely Planet's guide on 'What to do in Coromandel Town.'

The Stamper Battery has a Category One Historic Places Trust rating. Opened in 1899, this was the first diesel-powered gold processing plant in New Zealand and its last original stamper battery. It is the only six-head stamper battery in the world. The working machinery is still used for crushing gold ore and extracting gold.
